Abilities Overview

Hecarim's passive, Warpath, grants bonus AD equal to 10-20% of his bonus movespeed — this makes movespeed the most important stat for maximizing his damage. His Q (Rampage) is a short-cooldown AoE damage ability that stacks three times, with each stack increasing damage and area. The Q is his primary clear tool and sustained damage in fights.

W (Spirit of Dread) creates a zone that deals magic damage and heals Hecarim for 25% of all damage dealt by allies within the zone. Use this during teamfights to maximize healing. E (Devastating Charge) builds up movespeed over time, then Hecarim's next attack knocks the target back — the longer he charges, the further the knockback. R (Onslaught of Shadows) dashes forward fearing all enemies in a wide area, with the fear duration scaling with distance traveled.

Pathing and Early Game

Hecarim has a healthy full clear. Start raptors or wolves with a leash, path through your jungle and aim to complete a full 6-camp clear by 3:15. The optimal combo for clearing is Q-auto-Q-Q-auto with W active. Hecarim's ganks pre-6 are decent but improve significantly once he unlocks his ultimate fear.

Look for charge-ganks using E from fog of war — activate E, run at the enemy, and knock them back toward your laner. Ghost is the preferred summoner for maximum movespeed synergy. Post-6, gank lanes with R for the guaranteed fear — R onto the target, E knockback toward your team, and Q for damage.

Teamfighting

Hecarim is a dive engage jungler. In teamfights, your job is to charge the enemy backline and disrupt their carries. Use E to approach, then R to fear the enemy team — aim for hitting as many targets as possible with the fear. After engaging, use W for sustain and keep Qing in the middle of the fight.

Against peel-heavy comps, wait for the enemy to use their defensive abilities, then commit with R. Hecarim excels in extended fights where he can stack Q three times for maximum damage. Be careful about engaging too deep — without Flash or Ghost, Hecarim can be kited after his initial engage.

Build Path

Start Hailblade with Refillable Potion. Rush Eclipse for the early shield and burst damage — the shield helps survive dives. Spear of Shojin provides massive ability haste for Q spam. Dead Man's Plate gives movespeed, armor, and a slow on the initial auto.

Spirit Visage amplifies all healing including W. Sterak's Gage for teamfight survivability. Force of Nature against heavy AP. Boots are Plated Steelcaps or Mercury Treads. Consider Trinity Force for maximum damage when ahead.

Matchups

Hecarim excels against immobile mid laners and ADCs who can't escape his engage. He struggles against champions who can cancel his charge (Janna, Poppy, Vayne) or match his early dueling (Lee Sin, Graves, Udyr). Against strong early duelists, avoid fighting them in the jungle and focus on ganking lanes.
